I've started putting together a website for the design/programming/custom-art side of work. At this point it is pretty much crap. I've got a logo and a slogan:

We make art for business.

And I've dumped in a blogging app so I can do some tech-blogging and talk about my projects separated from the fine art related stuff (and the general whinging) that goes in here in my more personal blog. The site on a whole is no where near where I want it to be, but it is better than the dreaded "future home of" place-holder.

I don't wish to speak out of turn because I know *nothing* about proper web design. But I always find it strange when there is a quote without credit. On the front page of the lumber website I notice there is a quote at the bottom that is sort of a restatement of the copy above and has no credit for who said it.

ps. how much do you charge for web design? Probably more than I can afford but I have a really good web business idea that I want to get off the ground.

It's a fair observation. That's more a mission statement than a quote, in the context of the page. Presenting it as a quote is more about design than strictly correct grammar, and the fact that the whole thing was based on copy from a one-page press release.

Rule-of-thumb I charge between $75 and $125 per hour (Canadian). Factors that influence the price include how much graphic work is needed, how much back-end programming, the over-all size of the project (longer term projects get a lower rate - sort of a bulk discount). I've had websites I've worked on cost anywhere from $300 to $300,000.
