Is there any special reason why the only feedback I've gotten on my last two paintings (Red Chair #1 and Red Chair #2) has been a tiny smattering from total strangers (that's counting not just my journal, but communities, my portfolio, deviantART, etc.)? Are they that boring? Or are they not accessible? Or is it just some retarded social thing like because the paint manufacturer's friend dated your friend's friend's sister fourteen years ago so you won't comment for fear that your friend's friend's sister might take that as an endorsement of the brand of paint and that would make you a bad friend and get you dirty looks at the nightclub you won't go to anymore because the guy who cleans the bathrooms there is dating the paint manufacturer's ex-wife's cousin and had the gaul to add the paint manufacturer to his friends list on LJ?

Funny you should bring this up... I have often wondered the same thing in regards to my music posts (http://www.livejournal.com/users/_disdain_/166738.html?nc=2)(which generally receive little to no comments). Definitely an odd phenomenon.

Perhaps people are simply hesitant to comment on something they know little about?

That could well be, although I used to get more comments on my paintings.

The way things are going I may be displaying the finished set in a gallery on Queen Street West.

a lot ov ppl are intimidated by live postings ov artwork in general, whether it be poetry, music, photography, painings etc... I find that usually, your more likely to get positive feedback from those who you don't know, if any at all....

I stopped posting a lot ov my poetry for that reason... pretty much the only way I post poetry/artwork in my journal anymore is cause I don't have direct access to a computer at home, and want to store it somewhere other than on paper...

I know that that sounds defeatist, but my best advice is to expect nothing when posting any form of art anywhere other than a personal webspace. (where you can direct people who's views and opinions ov your work will matter)

It was the feedback that I did get that caused me to go back to it. I'm glad you thing it is an improvement. I was very concerned about over-working the face.

nothing personal!

just me being either too busy to form a coherent comment/critique, and away from the computer a lot lately.

your speculative thing going on made my head hurt. sounds needlessly complicated, and that perhaps you are in need of a new paint manufacturer :)
