Someone just blew up about $100,000 worth of fireworks in Coal Harbour. For what? Weee! It's January 11th! Let's have a 30-minute fireworks show!

Does anyone have any idea what this might have been for?

Yeah. Carnival Cruise Lines likes to have fireworks when their ships go out - but not like this. The was a major display, and, of course, it's nowhere near cruise ship season yet. I remain baffled.

Mystery solved - it was a launch event at the Shaw Tower for Shaw's new local telephone service.
