I hate paying money to figure out how much I money I have to pay.

It's like paying in advance for the privledge of spending a week to plan your own mugging, then mailing the money to the mugger who can't be arsed to show up.

Yup. And in a week when it shows up I'll get to spend a week figuring out how much you, me, Art of Adornment, and Litte 07 are going to get mugged for.

But we get a free update for our anti-virus software.

It's going to be ugly. I've been dreading this for months. Even just my personal taxes are going to be hell thanks to the mess created by the takeover at my old job, not to mention the fact that I've never done corporate taxes before. I'm actaully pretty good at accounting when I put my mind to it, but just because I *can* do something doesn't mean I enjoy it.

Since I do my own accounting and taxes, there's the $160 (plus taxes, of course) each year for the tax software, not to mention the expense of the accounting software (about $500 five years ago - I'm going to have to shell out for an upgrade soon) and worst of all -- the time it sucks out of my life. Between payroll deductions and what I've held back for the company's taxes I've got several tens of thousands of dollars put aside for taxes and I'm not expecting to be able to keep much of it.

To make matters worse - you have to collect sales tax on the governments behalf ...

Not only doesn't the mugger show up - but you have to mug people on his behalf

Good point. I was only thinking about income/corporate tax - collecting a remitting sales taxes is a whole other pain in the ass.
