The second one, for some reason, reminds me ever so slightly of Valerian. Looking forward to seeing the completed products.

It's the hair, but the funny thing is it's really the first one that actually is Valerian (http://valerian.araneum.ca/Images/pages/darkroom/EandA.html).

With the second one I really had a cross between Gloom Cookie and lady_amaranth (and Hamlet) in mind.
