I'm going to be very busy this week finishing these in Photoshop.

Dark Metal
There will be a lot more stage smoke added and the hairball throwing up the horns will be blurred.

Based on an old picture of Mr. Dark and Mew hamming it up at Sin City.

Victorian

The rest of this will be happening in Photoshop, obviously. I plan to use vintage photographs and absinthe posters.

And if you think this one looks a little like [livejournal.com profile] valerian and I, you're right.

BDSM/Fetish

Based on a photo of [livejournal.com profile] kitsune_13 and [livejournal.com profile] langsuir modelling gear from Mike's Custom Leather at the "Fallen II" fashion show, with an obvious Sin City plug.

Graver
The background on this one is going to be a fractal, smoke, and club lights. The glow-sticks will have tracers.

This one isn't based on any one photograph, although [livejournal.com profile] ladyvermath's wig at [livejournal.com profile] evilyn13's Pink 'n' Drink birthday party is a part of the inspiration.

The remaining ones to do today are:
  1. retro-goth: I'm most likely going to base this on [livejournal.com profile] voodoo__dolly.
  2. psychobilly/rockabilly: [livejournal.com profile] bigjohnbates and Scare-online without question - I already have the pictures picked out.
  3. wiccan: I'm not really sure how to represent this yet. It is going to have to be mostly about what is in the background. I've known too many wiccans (was even married to one) to even begin to come up with a stereotypical representation. Hopefully something will come to me.
  4. faery/pixie/Celtic: I have an image of [livejournal.com profile] darkleaves in mind.
  5. noise/electro-punk: WTF? Another one I'm not sure how to represent. How do I differentiate this visually from punk and rivet? Maybe something of [livejournal.com profile] 9322 will do - but I've no idea what to do for a background.

When I think of someone into Wicca, I think of someone in some sort of robes with forestry around them. Perhaps holding a chalice and daggar? Oo, candles and a pentagram somewhere too. Thin robes with suggested nudity? Google had a link to this - http://cillpiorra.homestead.com/Images1.html

Thanks, that helps. There is one image on that page in particular that I think I can work with. Because it's commonplace to me I find it just about as difficult as being asked to "Draw a Catholic."

#5 is a tough one. Thinking back to the people I knew that did that sort of thing, most were a pretty direct cross between Goth and Industrial. Mix up a bit of a "black metal" influence (as in the type of jewelery, wrist bands, and so on), (sometimes) PVC (fetish), often with some form of black military pants/boots (?) -- any item of clothing imported from Germany guaranteed you +10 aggro points. Frequently hair styles were borrowed directly from punk... although almost always black.

Maybe the best way to describe it is "grungy goth"... as in Exhibit "A" (http://www.wynnepalmer.net/uploads/photos1/3.jpg) (any similarity to people alive or dead is purely a coincidence)

I continue to be impressed with this series of drawings. They are almost comical in their stereotypes, but still accurate and respectful. I can't wait to see them all finished and in their full glory. Good on you, Michael.

While part of me is happy to have charted my own wobbly path through the fringes, part of me is a little sad that I'm not sub-group-iconic enough to be cartoonishly rendered. Ah well. These all look fun.
