I made the above animation and created quite probably the geekiest icon ever from it.

Old-school geeks will understand.

my god...i remember taking computers in grade 7 or 8...we had a teleprinter terminal hooked up to the university computer...we had to write a program like that...i do remember playing some sort of rudimentary space game on it too where you had to give commands in response to questions...

An icon, or a Commodore 64?

apparently, i may still have access to a 64, so an icon would do nicely. if you're so inclined :]

When I was a kid I used to get all these "basic for kids" books and would make all kinds of awesome programs like that. lol It's too bad I didn't keep up with that and become some programmer wunderkind. Also, recently my dad resurrected the old C64 so I can play all my awesome old games whenever I visit now (the ones that still work anyways).

I'm kind of sorry I did.

I don't have the real thing anymore, but I have an emulator program that lets my PC pretend it is a C64 (or a VIC-20, or a Commodore PET). That's how I made the icon.

Sometimes I think about getting one just for fun, but I already have too much kipple and too many unproductive distractions.

I remember writing a text-based RPG in Basic when I was little, maybe 8 or so. It must be why I spent uncountable hours playing and writing zones for MUDs a few years after...
