In summary: technology now exists that can reduce any hydrocarbon, including plastic, into oil and gas. It is no longer true that every bit of plastic ever made still exists.

I've seen that, and it's intriguing...but there is ONE of those things in the whole world. And you would still have to get all the lazy bastards on earth to recycle their plastic, even if those things existed - hell, I know people that don't even recycle PAPER, still, let alone plastic.
It's a step, but it's pretty minimal.
