Fun

So I got back to the guy from Turkey yesterday about the PHP implementation. He was pleased with my response and sent this thank you:
Hello,

Thank you very much indeed for your comments.

King Regards

I just love the idiom. "King Regards" I assume means a salutation worthy of a king. I have a mental image of a Turk in riding robes bowing flamboyantly.

It weirds me out every time I get a random question from someone in some faraway place. I've had people from India, Germany, England, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and now Turkey contact me out of the blue with technical questions. Despite the fact that I've been using the Internet for well over a decade now, it still has this capacity to stun me.

Sleepy me

So of course, rather than going straight to bed I choose to write in my LJ. Nah, I'm not addicted to this or anything.

So the extra-late Skank was fun. It was totally packed. I got lots of pictures as did other people. What I want to know now is why people feel compelled to come up and tell me about their websites? I smile and nod, but really... should I be impressed? It's like someone running up to you and telling you that they just learned how to use the telephone.

So I asked Trish if she was mad at me tonight because she has been a bit weird the last couple weeks. I thought maybe I had done something, or maybe not done something, that offended her. She said that she has just been introverted this last little while and it's not me. I hope not.

And in other stupid club manoeuvers - I caught myself acting like a stupid puppy-dog toward nice-Nicole more than once tonight. Ugh. She has a boyfriend and I don't need to do this to myself. For fuck's sake I'm almost 34, not 14. Nonetheless I keep doing this to myself. I am an idiot. It's a crush, it will pass.

Total tangent: I just now got an e-mail from a guy in Turkey asking me how I implemented PHP under my Domino server. That's just weird. The internet is weird.

Anyway, more about my adventures at Skank when I wake up sometime after noon.

The upside of not having any work right now is that I am starting to get some of those "one of those days when I have time" things done. I'm got my new website going (of which this journal is a part) and now I have finally gotten my web cam running again.

Other useless accomplishments in the last little while also include getting PHP running on under Domino (something that isn't supposed to work, BTW), setting up disc quotas so I'm not susceptible to upload DoS attacks, and a few other resoundingly geeky things. Maybe over the long weekend I'll stay away from the computer a bit and get some drawing and painting done.

No real news on the job front. I found out what was wrong with the recruiter that never got back to me... he quit (or was fired). Another outfit called me today about something with Telus. That could be a good job. I'm supposed to hear something of that tomorrow. No word on the bank or the wireless place yet. Nothing but nibbles. I need someone to bite, damnit!
