While that's a laudable action, I doubt it really swayed anyone in the IOC. Rio has food riots, an epic shanty-town, and gang violence that involves bombs and rocket launchers, yet they got 2016. Whatever really goes into the decision making process, it definitely has nothing to do with the concerns of anyone from the middle-class or lower.
