In 2007 the city of São Paulo, Brazil enacted an utterly amazing ban on outdoor advertising as "visual pollution." The ban has the support of over 70% of the populace and locals say that the city feels more serene and livable. Photographer Tony de Marco has been documenting this outstanding transformation of a city that put the well-being of its citizens ahead of those of corporations.

I was looking for a "Utopian" project (see my previous post title "Utopia is No Place (http://mbarrick.livejournal.com/973029.html)") and this dropped into my world to inspire me.

I've been surrounded by advertising for so long that I've learned to tune it out. I wonder if there's any actual energy that goes into that, and if so, what would happen if I no longer had to do it.
