The site dates from 1889 as its basement was constructed and in use quite some time before the rest of the main building went up. It underwent its first renovation the year your apartment block was built.
Actually, I'm not sure how much of the previous foundation was retained in the present building. But there has been a Anglican church on the location since 1889.
It wasn't originally built as a "cathedral" per se as the diocese's cathedra (bishop's throne) used to be located in New Westminster (and hence the hybrid name 'Christ Chruch Cathedral'). It became the diocese cathedral sometime in the late 1920s I think.
