Neat! I didn't know that. I presume then that there was a wooden structure on the foundation before the stone building was constructed?

Actually, I'm not sure how much of the previous foundation was retained in the present building. But there has been a Anglican church on the location since 1889.

It wasn't originally built as a "cathedral" per se as the diocese's cathedra (bishop's throne) used to be located in New Westminster (and hence the hybrid name 'Christ Chruch Cathedral'). It became the diocese cathedral sometime in the late 1920s I think.
