I finished the tree tonight. The orange pumpkins have blinky light emitting diodes, shown in the inset. While not show-at-the-VAG art, this was fun to make in a Martha Stewart-eque craft kind of way. Not counting the Sally globe, the materials were less than $20.

First Coat

Here's a better picture of the tree after the first coat of paint. There'll be at least one more coat (you can see some areas aren't well covered yet). I have an evening photography gig tomorrow night so I probably won't get the second coat on until Wednesday. Thursday after the second coat has cured I'll decide if a third is in order. I'm not at all sure when I am going to be able to find a few things to hang on it yet, but hopefully I'll have it done by the weekend.

[livejournal.com profile] bitogoth has this cute little wire Hallowe'en tree that I've always quite liked. It only took me just shy of five years to get around to it, but I decided to try my hand at making my own wire tree today. I haven't made anything out of wire for years. What you see here is a work-in-progress. It still needs paint and ornaments. Materials for this cost less than $10 and it was a nicely relaxing way to pass a couple hours. I'll post better pictures once it is finished.
