Elaine and I were just watching the first Sex and the City movie and Elaine made a comment about how big "Big" looked.

"He's exactly the same size as me," I said, "Remember when I bid on his suit?"

"Oh, yeah, " she replied, "then she must be tiny,"

"She's exactly the same size as you. Look at where she comes up to when she stands next to him; where do you come up to on me?"

"Oh, wow. That's what we look like?"

"Yes."

Yesterday's putz realtor must have seen that her ad was changed, it was deleted and reposted today - but it was reposted with the same attempt to hotlink my picture. She now has three ads pointing to the same picture:

I was watching the referrer log on my server today while testing something for work and happened to see that someone had hotlinked one of my pictures on newyork.craiglist.org. Some putz realtor was using a photo I made of the view of Downtown from the South Street Seaport to sell an apartment. People who hotlink should realise how easy it is to redirect to anything else...

The ad, with my image:

I was just looking at census numbers for New York City and the count estimates for the march against the Republicans during their convention. The number of people on the street in protest amounted to roughly the same as every single 20 to 60 year old on the island of Manhattan. In terms of the whole city, roughly one in ten adults came out. This is the city that was actually attacked coming out against Bush and the Republicans. The city that saw its tallest towers crumble and fall sees this president as more dangerous to them than those he claims to be defending them from. Think about it.

And if you are American, think about it very hard before you vote next month.

This was composited from two photographs as a means to deal with the difficult exposure problem presented by the dark foreground and the brightly lit building in the background. Then digital effects were applied to change the level of detail in the photograph.

Nor will we forget the citizens of 80 other nations who died with our own. Dozens of Pakistanis, more than 130 Israelis, more than 250 citizens of India, men and women from El Salvador, Iran, Mexico and Japan, and hundreds of British citizens.
What about us, George? What about that country that shares about 5,000 miles of border with you and represents nearly 50% of your foreign trade? What about the as yet undetermined 35-60 Canadians that were there? What about the estimated 200,000 Canadians in NYC right now? Way to go. Way to forget about your neighbours.
America has no truer friend than Great Britain.
Once again, we are joined together in a great cause.
I'm so honored the British prime minister has crossed an ocean to show his unity with America.
Thank you for coming, friend.
On Sept. 11, enemies of freedom committed an act of war against our country. Americans have known wars, but for the past 136 years they have been wars on foreign soil, except for one Sunday in 1941. Americans have known the casualties of war, but not at the center of a great city on a peaceful morning.
And way to show your ignorance of your own history, George. Nice how you praised the British and strategically failed to mention that it was them (and us) doing the attacking 136 years ago. Also way to forget about the Japanese landing on the Aleutian Islands. Did you forget about Alaska, George? That's part of the states too you know. Seems like you have a pretty major blind spot that starts at the 49th parallel. Idiot.
They hate what they see right here in this chamber: a democratically elected government. Their leaders are self-appointed.
And in case anyone's forgotten what happened in the last election, ain't this a fine example of the pot calling the kettle black? Here's a little reminder:

I'm all for going after the Taliban, it should have been done well before this. I'm just glad the Brits are involved to keep this idiot in line. Before the war really gets going, how about Giuliani for president? Or even Hilary Clinton? Or anybody with a brain.

I got "accused" of having a criminal mind this evening for describing how easy it would be to take out Manhattan's water supply.

I get bored. I think of things.

They keep phoning me every bloody day - all because they fouled up my instructions and then proceeded to foul up again on the replacement cheque I sent them. It's enough to make a person want to leave the country. Not that I can think of another country I'd want to live in. Maybe I should vote for the BC Separatists - then I can leave the country without moving. That would be convenient.

People in general are idiots. Obviously the author (Carol Lay) of today's comic agrees with me and has a theory of her own as to why that is.

So I'm now broke until my first paycheque comes in, but there is enough food in the house to get me and the cats by until then. There's gas in the car should I need it, not that I use it much. I really like this living-close-enough-to-walk thing. It takes me 35-40 minutes to walk. It occurred to me this morning that oddly enough that is just about exactly how long it used to take me to walk to elementary school when I was little. And it is nice walking now because there are so many other people walking. This transit strike is rather enjoyable. Walking along on a crowded sidewalk while all the honking cars crawl around the streets... it makes Vancouver feel bigger than it is. It's like living in some PG-rated, sanitized, friendlier version of New York. It's like living in Sesame Street!
